Remove featured image from wordpress post

I was recently experiencing this problem on my own site due to a theme upgrade. I always want to remove featured image from the post as it provides a cleaner post. In most cases the featured image is displayed at full size on the post. This can take up half to full screen. Users on mobile devices would not see your content without scrolling.

Depending on your theme, to remove featured image may require a couple different approaches. Below are 2 examples. One for those using theme provider SiteOrigin and the second are for themes provided by ThemeGrill.

For SiteOrigin theme simply modify your “content-single.php” template

<?php if( has_post_thumbnail() && siteorigin_setting('blog_featured_image') ): ?>
 <div class="entry-thumbnail"><?php the_post_thumbnail( is_active_sidebar('sidebar-1') ? 'post-thumbnail' : 'vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar' ) ?></div>
 <?php endif; ?>

Remove or comment out the following lines of code:

For ThemeGrill enter the following CSS either thru “Appearance –> Customizations” or the “CSS Stylesheet”

.single .featured-image {
 display: none;
 }

If neither solution helps to remove featured image please feel free to leave a comment with the theme you are using and I will be glad to assist.

I hope this helps you as much as it helped me.
